Willis Nganga-Special Olympics Competitor Visits Troutman Computer Learning

12/15/2005 - The language of computers is universal. For Special Olympian Willis Nganga of Kenya computers minimize language barriers and connect him to fellow "workshop students" in the United States.

In 1990, Willis came to the United States to compete in the Special Olympics where he won first place in handball. Six years of saving his money provided Willis the funds for a return visit this summer.

Willis attends a "sheltered workshop" in his hometown of Nairobi. As a guest of Jeni Warren he spent two days visiting the LifeSpan/Troutman Community Rehabilitation Program, spending most of his visit in the computer lab.

"Willis showed us many web sites about Kenya its natural beauty, animals, parks and places he visited. Most interesting was a web site of his workshop with several pictures of him working", said Jeni Warren. "Our students are very interested in finding out more about Ngangas workshop in Nairobi".

Jeni noted it would be nice to have a LifeSpan/Troutman Community Rehabilitation web site. Willis could then share his United States experiences with his Nairobi "sheltered workshop" friends.
