HandyCapable Network’s goal is to be known as the “go to” place to donate out of date computer equipment.

Why Recycle Your Computer with HandyCapable Network?

Helps Save the Environment - Monitor picture tubes (Cathode Ray Tubes or CRTs) contain lead.  Left in landfills, CRT lead can leach into the ground, poisoning our soil as well as our water supplies.  Computers and other related equipment also contain hazardous materials including lead, lithium, cadmium, mercury, beryllium and more.  Landfilling runs the risk of poisoning our environment.

Conserves natural resources – Valuable material can be recovered from old computers, and these materials can be used to make new products. For example, precious metals are used in computer circuit boards and other electronic components, and of course glass and plastics are used for computer monitors. Recycling these products reduces the need to mine the earth for new raw materials. Any computers or parts that cannot be refurbished by HCN are taken to certified recycling centers in the area to be properly disposed of.

Economic Value- On average, the original owner keeps a laptop computer for only three years. However, many  are still in good working condition and can be recycled, refurbished and given to schools and nonprofits like we do at HCN.

Supports the community- Donating your old electronics supports schools, low-income families, and non-profit agencies by providing them with refurbished computers and other electronics. Individuals are helped by being able to access technology that they could not otherwise afford.

Security- When donating your old computers, there is no need to worry about the privacy of your data. Each and every computer hard drive that enters our facility is either physically destroyed or is wiped clean with a utility that conforms to the U.S. Dept. of Defense standard for data destruction.

  1. Do you know of any organizations that provide computer services to persons with disabilities at no or low cost?

    Thanks
